The Benefits of Gait Trainers
Gait Trainers are designed for individuals that do not have the functional gait (walking) skills or postural control to safely and independently use a standard walker. Gait Trainers are available in posterior (rear) or anterior (front) models. The benefits of Gait Trainers include:
-Supports an upright body posture and natural gait pattern
-Encourages early cognitive and learning development
-Cardiopulmonary strengthening and conditioning
-Reduction of flexion contractures
-Increases spatial awareness and head control which helps to achieve independent ambulation
-Teaches an individual to take steps
Physical therapists often recommend posterior gait trainers because they are positioned behind the body and are open in the walking direction. The user is in an upright position and a natural gait pattern can be achieved. At CareProdx.com we offer a full line of anterior and posterior gait trainers.
